Brief Profile

The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering was established in the academic year 1997, with an annual intake of 60. The intake was enhanced to 90 from the academic year 2000 and later 120 from the academic year 2002, and enhanced to 180 from Academic Year 2012. Thirteen batches of B.Tech. students have graduated so far and they are well placed. The department has introduced M.Tech. Programmes in Three specializations namely, VLSI Design, Embedded systems and Digital Systems & Computer Electronics with an intake of 18 for each specialization. The intake was enhanced to 24 in Embedded Systems Specialization from the Academic Year 2013. The department has been offering Second Shift Polytehnic Diploma programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering with an intake of 60 from the academic year 2009. The intake was enhanced to 120 from the Academic Year 2012 and later 180 from the academic year 2013.

The Department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty and has well sophisticated equipment for conducting experiments in Electronics & Communication areas. The department has bagged University Gold Medal in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering stream for the academic year 2005-06. To interact and share the challenges and emerging trends in the field of signal processing, VLSI design and embedded systems, the department possesses DSP kits, embedded processor kits, VHDL software along with synthesis tools, and with latest PC configuration to work on Mat lab latest versions. Also the microprocessor lab is well equipped with microprocessor and microcontroller kits with TASM & MASM software. The Department has well equipped and updated laboratories where students can conduct experiments on subjects starting from “Electronic Devices and circuits” to “Microwave and optical communication engineering” and also in Microprocessor & Microcontrollers lab, VHDL/Verilog Lab, VLSI Lab, MATLAB, SPICE, MASM and Embedded systems Labs. The department periodically organizes seminars, symposia, workshops and guest lectures for the benefit of both the students and the faculty. The department provides opportunities to the students to expose themselves to eminent lectures on emerging areas by arranging Extension lectures by experts in the field dawn from highly reputed National Higher Education Institutes and industries. The department helps the faculty members to improve their teaching skills and enhance their knowledge by conducting Faculty Development programmes. The mission of the department is “To impart Quality Education in Electronics and communication Engineering”.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Preparation: To develop the student’s ability on technical concepts, to design, simulate and synthesize various electronic and communication circuits and systems for their research advancements.

Core Competence: To endow the students with a concrete foundation of basic and applied aspects of Electronics & Communication Engineering to carry out independent research, higher studies in core and allied areas of ECE.

Breadth: To nurture students with in-depth scientific and technical knowledge so as to plan, realize, Understand, investigate and produce quality Electronic and Communication products and suggest appropriate remedies to meet the contemporary problems round the globe.

Professionalism: To inculcate the team work and ethical standards among the students at the different levels of learning and to enable them to meet the electronics and communication engineering issues to the broader social context.

Learning Environment: To create an ambience to the learner to aware of excellence in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering with Leadership qualities imbibed with the ethical guidelines, so that lifelong learning would be helpful for their professional career.

Program Learning Outcomes

Outcome a: Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of differential equations, probability, special functions, physics, chemistry, English, Engineering drawing and Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Outcome b: Graduates will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate and solve Electronics and Communication Engineering problems.

Outcome c: Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design Electronics & Communication Systems to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.

Outcome d: Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design Electronics & Communications Circuits and conduct Experiments with electronic devices & systems, analyze and interpret data.

Outcome e: Graduates will demonstrate skills to use software tools like ECAD, VHDL, PSPICE, MATLAB, LabView and equipments like CRO, RPS, spectrum analyzer, function generator, micro processor & microcontrollers to analyze problems.

Outcome f: Graduates will demonstrate the knowledge of contemporary issues like increased use of portable devices, rising health care costs and etc. which influence engineering design.

Outcome g: Graduates will understand the impact of Engineering Solutions in a Global, Economic, Environmental, Societal context and sustainability.
