In an effort to create awareness among the public, the students of Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology and Science (JITS) (Autonomous), Karimnagar, launched a campaign aimed at curbing the use of plastic.
The JITS students who had formed ‘Jyothishmathi Brigade’ to participate in community service programmes in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of the college launched the campaign on March 29, 2023, and organising the awareness rallies by visiting all the localities in the town and educating the people to discourage the use of plastics and check the spread of deadly cancer and save mother nature from pollution.
Accordingly, the third phase of the campaign was organised from court crossroads involving local municipal corporators Banda Suma, Bhuma Goud, Ramana Reddy, Kuchu Ravi and Jangili Sagar and others on Thursday (April 13, 2023). The students carrying placards and banners participated in the awareness rally and distributed pamphlets elaborating on the consequences of using plastic and the benefits of using cloth bags.
The second phase of the campaign was conducted on April 6, 2023. During each campaign, several hundreds of students were spreading over localities of 10 municipal divisions and campaigning against the use of plastics.
Along with taking out rallies in the localities, the students also collected plastics from the roads and also from houses. They visited the shops, and vegetable and fruit vendors and educated them to ban single-use plastics as it was causing more harm to the people.
Lauding the noble cause taken up by the students of JITS, the municipal corporators accompanied the students in the awareness rallies in the respective divisions. JITS NSS programme officer Vishwa Prakash Babu, College Incharge T. Praveen Kumar, Diploma Incharge Ch. Sajan Rao, PD R. Venkateshwar Rao, coordinators Dr. G. Sridhar, Dr Manikandan, Dr. Jagadeeshan, Dr. Venkateshwaran, Dr. D Srinivas, Dr. Praneetha, Dr. Srilatha, Madhava Rao, Venkateshwarlu, Dr P Parameshwar, Uday Prakash, Jagadeshwar, S Gopal Reddy, Satish Chandra, Ramakrishna, Venkateshwarlu, Chandrashekhar, Rajkumar, Ramyaveena, Sai Krishna and others were also present.
